We moved into our new house a few months ago and I have slowly been collecting pieces for our living room. For most families, and especially ours, the living room is the heart of the home, where all the memories happen. In my house the living room is where we open presents, celebrate birthdays, have our family movie nights, cuddle up for story time, have crazy dance parties, entertain guests, play games, and just sit and talk. Some of our greatest memories form within the walls of our living room.
Having 5 kids (and 4 of those being crazy, wild, wrestling boys) the living room has to not only be pleasing to the eye but also functional and kid friendly.
I knew right away that I needed to gather all my ideas for the space in one place so I took to Pinterest and created a few boards of ideas.
Once I had my ideas in place and I knew the look I wanted to go for I started browsing different online shops to find the pieces that fit my taste. One of the websites I went to for my hunt was ARHAUS. They have some amazing pieces that really make my heart pitter patter when I see them.
My main goal for the living room was to have the main pieces (couch, chairs and furniture) to be mostly neutral colors so that I could change-up my color palette whenever I wanted, because lets just be honest here, my color palette choices change about as often as the seasons. I also wanted to be able to decorate for the holidays and not have my main pieces overpower my holiday decor. I wanted to be able to change out my main decor pieces (pillow cases, throw blankets and small decor items) whenever I wanted. I like my main decorating pieces to be colorful and make a statement. I also wanted a few pieces of furniture to stand out and have some bold colors. I want my living room to be a place where you walk in and instantly fall in love with everything you see.
I LOVE to decorate with newer pieces as well as older refurbished pieces. I use my BB Frosch chalk paint powder to update my old outdated garage sale finds and give them new life. You can see some of the pieces I have redone here. Chalk painting and updating your pieces is a great way to save money in one area so that you can spend more in another. You can take your garage sale/thrift store find and update it for a very minimal price and then take the money that you saved on that piece and put it towards a new piece that you have been eyeing for sometime. This is by far my favorite way to decorate because you can get the new pieces that you love and mix them in with the older pieces you have refurbished to make the space your own. New life and old life combining to make your dream space… it doesn’t get much better then that.
I wanted to take some of my older pieces and mix them in with new pieces to create an atmosphere of warmth that’s inviting to those who enter. I also want our living room to make a statement when you walk in. The biggest compliment I love to get from people is how gorgeous yet comfy my home is. I want people to walk in and feel like they can plop down on my couch and put up their feet.
After I created my Pinterest boards I was ready to create my Mood/Vision board. I used lots of pieces from Arhaus mixed in with some of my current pieces as well as some other finds from some of my favorite places to find smaller decor pieces like throw pillows and blankets.
I really love comfy couches, arm chairs (I think the word my husband uses is addicted) and fun colored pillows so our space wouldn’t be complete without those pieces. Of course a staple in our home is a Gallery Wall accompanied by some fantastic light fixtures and fun colored accent pieces. I tried to incorporate as much of that as I could into my Vision board. I think this space fits our families needs and wants very well. I could not be more in love with the pieces I found and the vision board I was able to create. Now that I found my amazing pieces and have my ideas in place and my vision set I am ready to get to work creating my dream space.
I added in all the links to the amazing pieces that make up my vision board so that you can quickly find anything that you love.

I could have sat at the computer all day looking at all the amazing pieces that Arhaus has to offer (and I may have done just that). I would say that I fell in love with way too many pieces, but honestly it’s not possible to love too many things, so I’ll just say that I fell in love with more pieces than will actually fit in my living room. There were so many amazing pieces that I literally contemplated where else in my house I could make room for them.
I loved these pieces so much that I went ahead and swapped a few things out to add them to the Mood/vision Board. I seriously am so in love with so many pieces from Arhaus.com that I really can’t even begin to imagine how I would narrow the items down to fit them in my actual living room.
Arhaus also has some AMAZING sectionals. We love sectionals in our house because not only do we have lots of kids but we love to entertain and have family visit. A sectional is the perfect way to add beauty and functionality to your space. We have lived all over the country in our 11.5 years of marriage and have made friends all over, so we want to make sure we always have plenty of room for them when they come and visit (we even have a 12+ seat dinner table). Whether you are having a party, friends over, family coming to celebrate the holidays or just your own family movie night, adding a sectional to your space is the perfect way to make sure you have all the seating you need for all the loved ones in your life.
Just for fun I wanted to show you some of the sectionals I fell in love with.
I absolutely ADORE this sectional (can you adore a piece of furniture? cause I definitely do). It has plenty of space and fantastic lines. To me sectionals mean more room for pillows and throw blankets (but shhh don’t tell my husband I said that, he already thinks I own all the throw pillows ever made). This sectional even comes in a variety of colors and textures so you can customize it to fit your space. And if you need even more space they have sectionals that come in several pieces so you can make sure you couch fits everyone you want.
And for the leather lover in me, this one just speaks to my soul. I think I’m going to need (yes, its a need) it for our library/keeping room.
You can check out more the sectional options here.
I would love to see some of your vision boards. Please leave a comment linking me back to those that you have created.
