I can’t believe my baby boy is turning a year old! Seriously where does the time go? I feel like all of a sudden I blinked and he was no longer a tiny baby anymore. He has a mouth full of teeth, personality for days and is the little comedian in our family. He has blessed our home and strengthened our family in so many ways that while it feels like he was just born yesterday, it also feels like he has been with us for forever.
Mister independent loves to be outside. He loves balls. He loves cups and he LOVES his people.
(I apologize in advance for the terrible pictures. Tayton accidentally broke my fancy camera lens so my cell phone had to make do for the party. )
Life has been a bit crazy lately with me having had 2 surgeries so I was stressing a bit about pulling off an epic 1st birthday party. After taking to Noah and thinking about who Fynnock is, I realized that an epic party didn’t have to be over the top and stressful, it just had to be full of things Fynnock loves.
Suddenly the stress went away and I knew that we were going to have a BBQ outside with “his people” and baseball and football cakes for his 1st Birthday.
It’s safe to say a BBQ complete with all of his favorite foods was the perfect kind of EPICness for Fynnock’s 1st birthday party.
He ate so much he went into a bit of a food coma.
After he ate we got him all cleaned up and ready for cake. I made him his very own smash cake because what 1st birthday is complete without one?
By the time he started digging in it was getting dark.
He was by far my most memorable smash cake baby.
He went to town on that thing.
He stuck his face right in it, tried to pick the whole thing up and basically proceeded to inhale it through his mouth and nose. Everyone there loved it and said they had never seen a kid go to town on a cake like that. I mean he comes by it honest, he is my kid after all and if you are going to eat a cake you might as well do it the right way.
Eventually he’d had enough and was ready to move on. We probably should have just hosed him off but Noah took him to the bathroom and bathed him.
Afterwards the tub looked like something from a “Return on the Mud Monster” type horror film. But its all worth it in the long run…. because babies covered in cakes are just the cutest.
I made a baseball and football cake for everyone else to eat. One white cake with vanilla frosting and one chocolate on chocolate.
And what summer southern party is complete with out some Strawberry Shortcake for good measure? My recipe for this absolutely delicious cake is here.
When Fynnock was all washed up and ready for bed he got to open his presents.
All of his little friends and “mommies” helped me open up his gifts, which were of course filled with all of his favorite things.
Cups, balls and cars.
He was so excited about everything and I could tell he thought this had to be the greatest day of his life. He had no trouble figuring out that each gift contained something exciting for him after he opened the first one.
A ball for each hand…..
…and one for the mouth for good measure. He was a bit stressed about how in the world he was supposed to carry all of his new toys around at the same time. The next morning he got his gift from us, a soccer goal and basketball hoop…. more ball filled fun.
All in all I would say it was the perfect amount of Fynnock epicness I could have asked for and I’m glad that I didn’t drive myself crazy stressing over all the little details and just enjoyed my time with my all too quickly growing baby.
