Autumn Around the South Blog Hop:
Hosted by A Southern Blog Collective
I am so excited to be pairing up with some amazing bloggers from around the South, for my first ever blog hop, and giving you our Fall around the South round-up. The Southern Blog Collective, a fabulous group of Southern bloggers, have teamed up to bring you all things fantastically Southern. We have all worked hard to bring you the best tastes, projects and home tours of the season. The links to everyone’s posts will be at the end of mine along with a picture from their projects. I hope you enjoy seeing all the fantastic things us Southern Gals have to offer. These are some amazing women and I would LOVE it if you would check out their work, comment and share.
Fall as you well know by now is one of my most favorite times of the year. I grew up in Alaska where Fall was absolutely breath-taking, the leaves all changed colors and fell from the trees. The mountains looked like something from a fairy tale with all the different colored trees all packed around each other. But Fall in Alaska is very short-lived and turns into Winter in the blink of an eye. This is our first Fall in Alabama and I am loving it already. The leaves are falling off the trees, but now as an adult, I am cringing at the amount of leaves we have to rake up in our tree filled acre of land. Nevertheless, Fall is still my favorite season. Now if only the weather would cool down and start acting like Fall. My 8-year-old yesterday moaned as we got out of the car, “When’s it going to not be so hot?” I responded that in a week or two it should cool down and then he perked up and said, “When’s it going to snow?” HA!! I had to break his little spirit and inform him we still do not live in a place where it snows.
I present you with my Fall Home Tour but I must preface you with a few things.
My house isn’t perfect. Its always a work in progress and lived in. I once read a blog post called “In Praise of the ‘scruffy hospitality‘”. It basically talked about having people over to your home even if all your projects aren’t done, your dishes are cracked, and your home lived in. I LOVED the article because it really is the story of my life. If I waited until my house was perfect we would never have anyone over. I always have some project going on and paint swatches on the wall. That’s my home, and we sure do love having people over and being hospitable. And of course there are random toys that can be found in the far reaches of each corner because we live here. There may be some dust on the furniture and crumbs on the floor. We bought a fixer up so there is a lot of work to be done and I am nowhere near finished, but we like to share the love and have anyone and everyone in our home.
Welcome to my home, where it’s always noisy, the candles are always burning (I have to cover up that boy smell somehow), the couches are worn, laughter bounces off the walls and everyone is always welcomed with open arms and maybe a slobbery kiss or two (from the kids, not me).
FALL HOME TOUR
Come on in, our door is alway open. Sometimes literally, because the kids never shut it!
WELCOME to our Fall Home Tour, I’m glad you could join us. When you first walk in you enter our very large entryway with a 2 story ceiling. I love this area because it’s so big and has very open feel into the rest of the house. Off to the left is our dining room and straight back is our family room.
We just barely got a table to put in here but I need to fix it up so currently we don’t have a table in our dining room yet…. but nevertheless it’s still one of my favorite rooms in the house.
This side buffet is my most favorite thing to decorate for the holidays. It’s such a big piece and I love that I have such a large area to decorate. I am a addicted to flower arrangements for each holiday so I go to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s to feed that addiction.
I found this chair years ago at an Antique store. It’s actually an old highchair. I always have a ton of fun decorating it for the holidays.
After the dining room we enter the living room. I LOVE Gallery walls, you can see my post about how to make them here. I just knew this wall had to be our gallery wall when we moved into our house.
When you enter our living room you can see our book shelves (which I am currently painting white) along the wall to the stairs. I love to decorate these shelves for the holidays. Adding little pumpkins randomly among the spaces gives it a fun fall vibe.
Our fireplace was one of the big selling points of our house for me. I loved that it was a double-sided fireplace and went from the living room to the keeping room. I am currently working on re-tiling the fireplace and am so excited to show you guys the finished product soon.
I absolutely LOVE to decorate the mantle for the holidays, so here it is with a little bit of Fall flare. I’ve been collecting pumpkins and flower pieces for years. I love the “flower pick” section at Hobby Lobby and collect a bunch every during the after holiday sale.
I found our winged back chairs on Craigslist and plan on painting this one to match the other one with chalk paint soon. There is a really cool story behind this chair that I will have to tell y’all when I post the final painted product.
We have a sectional from Ikea in our living room currently and a new (to us) second-hand coffee table. I am working on painting the coffee table (and the beige chair on the left) and we are also getting a new couch for in here and moving the sectional into the keeping room. Big plans for this space, big plans.
We have a chair on either side of our television with side tables that I redid with BB Frosch chalk paint powder mixed with Behr paint. I love to decorate the tables and am frequently changing out the decor on them.
The other side of the TV cabinet is one of my favorite places to sit. You can see the whole room and into the kitchen (got to keep an eye on those crazy kids of mine).
Our keeping room one has one piece of furniture in it because a lot of the stuff in our living room will be coming in here when we buy new stuff for the Living Room, so right now this is the only thing that is decorated in here, but I love it. The “If you feed them they will come” sign is one of my favorites because no truer statement could be uttered in this house. 5 kids and 4 of them boys means LOTS and LOTS of food is consumed every second of every day.
We also have some built-in bookshelves in our keeping room and the other side of the fireplace. I am planning on big things for this space as well so stay tuned for that. The 31 got put up just before this picture as my sign of things to come… man I’m so excited to decorate for Halloween too. Stay tuned for that Home Tour.
And then for good measure, because no Fall Home Tour, or any Home Tour for that matter is complete with out it, I am throwing in a picture of what our living room looks like normally… because like I said, we live here.
