Knobs

February 18, 2015 by Finding your joy in the journey

Does anyone else have a crazy obsession with changing out the knobs on their furniture?

I literally walk down the knob isles in any store that carries knobs just so I can swoon over KNOBS!!

They can take a piece from simple and “just like everybody else” to WOW and unique.

I love finding great knobs at killer prices and spicing up my pieces.

I usually redo most of my furniture so it’s of course only fitting that I redo the knobs right along with the rest of it.

I think that changing out the knobs, handles or hardware on furniture can make a huge change for a dramatic effect on any piece.

Changing out knobs makes a big difference for a small price, it really is the best way to make an impact on your piece without having to shell out a lot of money.

Plus its a super quick and easy change to make.

Who doesn’t love a cheap, quick change that makes a very dramatic impact?

I buy a lot of knobs at Hobby Lobby when they go on sale for half price. I also have found some on Amazon and I always check when I am at Lowes and Home Depot and have found some great piece their as well.

All of the knobs in this post came from Hobby Lobby.

(I was not asked by Hobby Lobby to do this post, therefor I was not paid for this post.)

I bought a gentleman’s cabinet in Alabama last summer and it has been a fantastic piece to have in our master bedroom.

It has some really neat drawers in it that I put all of my jewelry in.

This piece is so fabulous it deserves its own blog post…. so stay tuned for that.

I absolutely LOVE these gold and glass knobs.

When I found them I knew that I had to have them and I knew exactly where I wanted them. It just screams classy without being over the top.

I found this dresser a few years ago. Upon first glance it was just an ugly 70’s piece at Restore, but I saw major potential in its size and its beautiful lines, I knew that I had to make it mine.

A few coats of paint (and some much-needed sanding, still to be done) it was a whole new piece.

It took awhile for me to find hardware that I loved and I am still debating on whether or not I like the gold in the middle, but for now this “work in progress piece” makes me happy.

Knobs

This blue piece is another Restore find, in fact it was a set with the above piece. It’s a tall dresser with cabinet and holds all my “treasures”.

This bad boy literally is my catch-all inside those doors. I really need to figure out something fun for inside to make it less of a catch-all and more of a fun and functional space.

When I found these gold and glass dangling knobs I fell in love.

I was leery about using them on this at first because I wasn’t sure if they would fit the space where the knobs would be, but I am very pleased with how they turned out, It’s like they were made for this piece.

(notice the crayon on the right door…. lovely, eh?! My kids apparently like to help me decorate.)

The bottom half of the dresser took a little bit longer to find knobs for.

I tried several different kinds before I decided that I liked these ones the best.

My buffet in the dining room came with some cute wooden knobs, but they didn’t pop at all.

I really wanted something that would not clash with the vintage feel but that would bring a new element to the piece as well.

I fell in love with these glass knobs the second I saw them, love at first sight you might say.

I have had them on there for almost 2 years and I still love them just as much as they day I bought them.

They were a green for a bit and I was not in love with that, I am so glad I made the change (go here to see what they looked like before)

The bottom of the buffet has had several changes in knobs up until recently.

I really like the new wood knobs and white aged metal.

I think these ones will stick around for a while.

This piece is currently “under constructions”.

The blue and fun funky knobs fit really well on this piece before when it was in our old living room (go here to see our old living room).

The last space was a lot of bright fun colors but our new space is much more neutral so I will be redoing this end table very soon, I have some grand plans for this piece.

I bought this piece already redone but I really did not like the knobs it had on it.

The knobs were lions heads with the handles in their mouth.

Very haunted house type feel and while I did really dig the knobs, they most definitely did not fit the piece, so my friend and I did some haggling and had them throw in the bronze knobs for free (unfortunately I had to relinquish the lions head ones, those would have looked great somewhere else.)

Yippie!!! Haggling at its best.

The knob on the door was a tiny little thing so when I got home I changed it out for the world knob which I think fits the piece much better.

One of my most favorite pieces (and my husbands least favorite piece to move) is our big entertainment center that’s made out of barn door pieces.

I LOVE it with my whole soul.

It’s just a thing of beauty.

Aowyns room is my vintage wonderland.

Almost everything in her room is a thrift store and antique store find.

Its one of my favorite spots in the house.

I found a really old hutch at Goodwill and painted it and sanded it down and added some super cute girly knobs.

I painted the birds and the owls to match the colors in her room.

My book shelves are a work in progress. I am slowly sanding them down and making them fit our space more.

One of the first changes I made was to change out the knobs.

I love that these look like hose handles.

They just fit so beautifully in my funky space.

(See the  hair tie on the left knob? We used them to hold the doors shut when we moved. I had asked my oldest to take them off for me, and true to guy form he did the quickest job he could, and it only took mom 4 moms to discover it.)

I redid our night stands in our master years ago and I keep changing out the knobs because I have yet to find some I love.

After I put these ones on my daughter dropped something on the bottom one and broke it.

So back to the drawing board for knobs.

(more crayon… I really do love the art work my kids leave me. My little decorators in the making?)

Stay tuned for my next post…. All the glorious knobs you can dream of.

I have several pieces still in the works and so I have been on the hunt for knobs, come check out all the fun knobs I have run across on my hunt for the perfect knobs.

    Words to live by

“Give your child a compliment and a hug; say, ‘I love you’ more; always express your thanks. Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved. Friends move away, children grow up, loved ones pass on. It’s so easy to take others for granted, until that day when they’re gone from our lives and we are left with feelings of ‘what if’ and ‘if only.’ … “Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey and share our love with friends and family. One day, each of us will run out of tomorrows. Let us not put off what is most important.” - President Thomas S. Monson
