The living room and kitchen/dining room to me is the heart of the home. I usually take a while to find all the perfect things for the rest of the house because all the good finds go into the living room. I really do love the space and always am looking to make it more cozy and comfy. Its the place where we spend the most time and where most of our memories are made as a family. I want to make the space as inviting as I possibly can while still making it very stylish and pleasing to the eye.
I feel like this room is a constant work in progress. I love it for a little bit and then I find something I want to change-up or redo. My Gallery wall stays the same and the rest of the space usually gets moved around often.
Right now I LOVE the set up of the living room and there are only a few things I want to tweak to make it flow better but for the most part I don’t plan on changing up much. I am trying to go for more neutral colors in the living room space and am trying to eliminate most of the bright colors while keeping just a few for the nice little pops of color. The library space behind the living room is still a big work in progress… but that’s for a totally different post.
You can read the post on our Gallery wall here. I LOVE our Gallery wall and it makes me so happy that I can see it from anywhere upstairs.
I still need to work on fixing up the tables on either side of the TV cabinet and I have changed out the throw blanket on the back of the chair for a more neutral color.
We have a split level entry so when you walk in the house and walk up the stairs you walk into our living room. Our upstairs is just one giant room. The living room is connected to the dining room on one side and the library/office on the other with the kitchen in back corner. I love the open feel and I really love that you can see every space from anywhere upstairs. I love that I can sit on the couch and read a book with my littles while still helping my oldest at the table with his homework. I love that I can talk to all of my kids and see them all while cooking in the kitchen. I love having such a great open space for our family to enjoy. It’s hard to find such an open plan here in Vegas, there are a lot of floor plans with half walls to divide the spaces and I LOVE that this house does not have that.
It is hard to decorate when you are lacking wall space but I love having the couches dividing the space.
I took these pictures a few weeks ago and have changed out a bunch of the colors in here already, just a few changes can make a big difference on how a space feels. I’ll post the new pictures after Easter when it’s all “normal” again. Stay tuned for the Easter pictures too.
The basket on the ledge behind the chair is where I put all the things that need to go downstairs (the ones I can’t safely just toss down the stairs).
If you look down the stairs you can see a sneak peek of our J letter wall.
I hate cords!!! One of these days I’m going to have to figure out how to hide them better.
I am planing on changing out the blue side table between the couches for a big spool table that I am going to stain and use as the end table. I can’t wait to see that piece completed and put in this space.
When you don’t have a lot of wall space you simply can create it by adding a chalkboard to the middle of two windows to create more space. I also added a mirror to the window space in the dining room.
I want to change out the Turquoise cabinet (move it downstairs) and put a card catalog cabinet in its place. Now I just need to find (or make) one of those.
Most of the pillow cases have already been changed out for more neutral colors and less patterns.
The baskets under the side tables are normally filled with blankets. We LOVE blankets in our house and I’m pretty sure half of those blankets are IKEA blankets.
I am currently working on a table to go in this space as a coffee table. Think vintage on wheels… so excited. I am also on the hunt for a rug. I really want something with a soft pattern, maybe gray and white, I haven’t quite decided yet.
This Gallery wall makes me smile every time I see it. I really love this whole space and how open and bright and airy it is. I love the changes in color and the more neutral feel that I am going for in here.
I can’t wait to get those tables to be done and the space to really come together even more. There are never-ending projects in here it seems.
I have already made a few changes in the dining room and am currently working on a hutch to go in the big blanket space on the wall between the two windows. Also I need to find a new chandelier to go in this rental… that ghetto ones needs to go…. NEEDS to go!!! Someone please call security and get that beast out of here.
I love the look of my tufted couch but it’s causing us some major problems. Stay tuned for my review of it next week.
This couch is my favorite!! Zero regrets with it. I am loving it so much!! I’m glad I talked hubby into letting me buy one with the brads.
If you look closely at the couch you can see that its starting to “peal” all over, like a sweater. It’s driving me crazy.
Now I want to go curl up on my couch with a good book or watch some episodes of FRIENDS. Anybody else watch that show over and over? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode at least 3 times (maybe more).
